July 28, 2010 – MDS Nordion and the global nuclear medicine community has been provided new guidance on the return to service of the NRU. In their latest update, AECL has indicated some unforeseen operational issues and has estimated to add 10 to 15 days beyond the planned return-to-service date of July 31.
Since May 2009, MDS Nordion maximized this time to examine its facilities and make modifications and upgrades as required. We believe we have taken the steps necessary to assume our role in the supply chain and resume the processing of isotopes from the NRU for the global nuclear medicine community, once we begin receiving isotopes from AECL.
We have completed a number of preparation activities and are working diligently to prepare for the expected NRU return to service:
- We have completed our maintenance activities;
- Our team has undergone refresher training as it relates to individuals’ roles and responsibilities; and
- We have communicated with our global supply chain to implement a return to service action plan and are ready to ship and supply our products to customers once we receive supply from the NRU.
Consult this page for more information on the steps MDS Nordion has taken to prepare for the return to service.
