Macrocyclics

MDS Nordion is collaborating with Macrocyclics Inc., a privately held, Dallas, Texas-based company that conducts research and development, good manufacturing practices (GMP), synthesis, and makes accessible to the research community a variety of high purity ligands for nuclear medicine and magnetic resonance imaging applications.

The collaboration is focused on the development of innovative, bifunctional chelates for use in molecular imaging and targeted therapeutic pharmaceuticals. Bifunctional chelates are chemical compounds used to secure a radioisotope to a molecular targeting agent such as a monoclonal antibody, peptide, or other molecules specific for biologic receptors. The use of molecular targeting molecules is an established and increasingly promising technique that has the potential to significantly improve the ability to diagnose and treat disease, including cancer.

An outcome of this collaboration is the filing of patents covering innovative bifunctional chelates. We anticipate additional innovations arising from this collaboration.

New and Innovative Bifunctional Chelates

Developed through our collaborative research partnership with Macrocyclics, we’re proud to announce two new proprietary bifunctional chelates:

p-Bn-PCTA and p-Bn-Oxo-DO3A

Already showing promising properties in discovery research, these bifunctional chelates are applicable to numerous metal radioisotopes, including 68Ga, 64Cu, 111In, 90Y and 177Lu. These novel proprietary bifunctional chelates, p-Bn-PCTA and p-Bn-Oxo-DO3A, are available* through Macrocyclics.
