Course Description

The objective of the Facility and Process Management course is to help prepare new or potential facility managers perform their job. Content covers basic, advanced, and specialized industrial irradiation operations.

Participants

This course is intended for new or potential facility managers.

Frequency and Duration
This five-day course is offered once to twice a year. Additional courses can be scheduled for groups of five or more participants. This course can also be delivered at other locations if an industrial irradiator is available.

Content: Basic Industrial Irradiation Dosimetry
To enable the participants to carry out routine dosimetry activities required in the daily operation of an industrial irradiation facility, the Facility and Process Management course may include:

  • Full irradiator commissioning dosimetry (dose mapping)
  • Use of Harwell dosimeters
  • Use of Far-West Technology nylon film and Opti-Chromic dosimeters
  • Use of Ceric-Cerous dosimeters
  • Practical exercises
  • Documentation to meet Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) recommendations

Content: Advanced Industrial Irradiation Dosimetry
To enable the participants to perform all dosimetry tasks related to the operation of an industrial irradiation facility, including product commissioning using reference dosimetry systems, the Facility and Process Management course may include:

  • Review of relevant dosimetry systems
  • Use of Harwell and Nordion perspex dosimeters
  • Use of FWT-60 nylon film and Opti-Chromic dosimeters
  • Use of Ceric-Cerous dosimeters
  • Irradiator commissioning dosimetry and dose mapping procedures, practical exercises, analysis and reporting
  • Calibration exercises using full scale industrial irradiator, research irradiator and underwater calibrator
  • Dosimetry record keeping: Routine and special
