Privacy Notice and Consent related to Personal Information/Employment Applications

Please read this Notice and Consent before you provide us with any Personal Information.

Nordion (Canada) Inc. is sensitive to privacy issues and we are committed to maintaining and protecting the confidentiality of your Personal Information in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

This Notice describes our practices regarding the collection, use and disclosure of any Personal Information that you may provide to us via the Career Site and subsequently during the recruitment and hiring process. Unless permitted or required by law, or with your consent, Nordion will treat your Personal Information in a manner consistent with this Notice. By providing your Personal Information to Nordion, you agree and consent that we may collect, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with this Notice. In addition, where appropriate, specific authorizations or consents may be obtained from time to time.

All references to ‘our’, ‘us’, ‘we’ or ‘company’ within this Notice refer to Nordion (Canada) Inc., its subsidiaries and affiliates.

What do we mean by Personal Information?

“Personal Information” in the context of the Career Site is information about an identified individual or an individual whose identity may be inferred or determined from such information; this does not include contact information such as an individual’s name, telephone number, email address or business title. In addition to providing us Personal Information through your on-line application, you may also choose to provide us with Personal Information if, for example, you: contact us with an enquiry; register on the Career Site, submit your resumé, or submit a form with your Personal Information. This information may also include data or information we may collect during reference checking, background and security verifications or pre-employment medicals as required. This Notice does not cover aggregated data from which the identity of an individual cannot be determined. Nordion reserves the right to use aggregated data in any way that it determines appropriate.

Collection, Use and Disclosure

The Personal Information that we request through the Career Site and that you choose to provide may be used and/or disclosed in one or more of the following ways:

  1. Collection and Use:   Information is collected on this Career Site so that we may evaluate your application for employment against employment opportunities in the organization, and communicate with you regarding the status of your application. This includes positions for which you have specifically applied for or if you set up our “Job Search Agent” notification feature.  We may also consider you for positions within the company for which you have not specifically applied with respect to which we feel, from your application, may be suitable for and which may be of interest to you. The company will use your Personal Information to communicate with you about these opportunities.
  2. Disclosure: Our employees and service providers are bound by obligations of confidentiality to protect and maintain the confidentiality of Personal Information received. We do not disclose any of your Personal Information without your informed consent, unless we are required or permitted to by law. If we are obligated or permitted to disclose information without consent, we will not disclose more information than required. For purposes related to your application for or acceptance of employment at Nordion, we may disclose or transfer your Personal Information to Nordion-related entities (i.e. Nordion’s parent company and affiliates) and non-Nordion-related third party service providers retained to provide services to Nordion or on Nordion’s behalf, such as for example, to provide administrative, recruitment, human resources, and technology services. All third party service providers will be subject to contractual agreements stipulating the confidentiality and safeguard requirements with respect to the handling of Personal Information.Your Personal Information will not be sold to a third party. In some circumstances, however, like the sale or reorganization of the company or for purposes of  continuity of assessing your candidacy, you consent to the disclosure of information concerning your relationship with us, including Personal Information that you have provided to us, to any successor corporation (including related entities).
  3. Retention: We keep your Personal Information only as long as it is required for the reasons it was collected. This period may extend beyond the end of your relationship with us but it will be only for so long as it is necessary for us to have sufficient information to respond to any issues that may arise at a later date. When your Personal Information is no longer required for Nordion’s purposes, we have procedures to destroy, delete, erase or convert it into an anonymous form. We rely on you to notify us of any updates that may occur regarding your information.
  4. Cross Border Transfer of Information:The legal entities, management and organizational structures, business processes and technical systems of Nordion and its third party service providers cross international borders. Accordingly, Nordion and its third party providers will collect, transfer and disclose Personal Information across borders and between legal entities within the respective companies, for the purposes defined in this Notice or as permitted by law.

Personal Information is stored in physical files in secured locations, and in electronic databases on servers, located at Nordion’s facilities or at the facilities of Nordion-related entities, and on the servers of our third party service providers, such as those we retain for recruitment, technology and records storage services. Nordion may transfer to and store your Personal Information with Nordion-related entities and with Nordion agents and third party service providers located outside of Canada, for the purposes of recruitment and hiring activities, the management and storage of its information files and for the provision of related services to Nordion. While the information resides outside of the territory of Canada, it may be accessible to the local courts, law enforcement and national security authorities in the foreign jurisdiction.

Amendments to this Privacy Notice

We reserve the right to amend this Notice at any time without notice. If the Notice is amended, it will be posted on this Career Site.  We therefore recommend that you check this Career Site regularly to refresh your knowledge about our privacy commitment to you. Consent Statement

By providing your Personal Information to Nordion, or other third party service providers, you acknowledge having read this Notice and you agree to the collection, use and disclosure of such information for the purposes described in this Notice. You authorize Nordion and its third party service providers to store all information at, and transmit the information to, various data storage locations, either directly or indirectly through Nordion’s service providers wherever they may be located, including outside of Canada. Subject to legal and contractual requirements, you may refuse or withdraw your consent at any time by contacting our Privacy Officer.
