To best serve the diversity of our customers’ requirements, we are organized into two business units:
We provide reliable, long-term, end-to-end Cobalt-60 supply and services. There are two types of Cobalt which Nordion provides to our customers. The first and most widely used is Cobalt-60 sourced from Canadian nuclear reactors. Every day, around the world, gamma rays from Cobalt-60 are used to reduce or destroy harmful micro-organisms from a wide variety of products—everything from fruits and vegetables to poultry and red meat, from seafood to dog chews, and from cosmetics to surgical gloves. The second type of Cobalt is High Specific Activity (HSA) Cobalt-60 or “medical-grade Cobalt” and is used to treat brain cancer. In addition to Cobalt-60, Nordion also manufactures gamma irradiation systems. There are over 200 large scale irradiation facilities in operation in 40 countries, and Nordion built 120 of them.
