Carlo Coppola

Director, Nordion’s Gamma Centre of Excellence
Carlo has over 16 years of experience working with radiation and sterilization.

Carlo oversees Nordion’s Gamma Centre of Excellence. He has worked on multiple collaborations involving radiation processing—from medical devices to food packaging. Carlo is a member of ASTM.

Carlo holds a BSc in Molecular Biology from McGill University.

Greg Fulford

B.Sc., Manager Radiation Protection and Nuclear Transportation, Nordion
Over Greg’s 20 years with Nordion he has taken on ever-increasing roles of responsibility. His experience spans radiation protection, nuclear transportation, product management and program management.

Greg holds a B.Sc. from the University of Waterloo and diploma in Biochemical Technology from Algonquin College.

Fatima Hasanain

MSc. Polymer Materials Specialist, Gamma Technologies
Fatima has a variety of expertise in radiation effects on polymer materials, pharmaceuticals and gamma sterilization.

Fatima is the Technical Manager of the Dosimetry lab at Nordion and a member in the ASTM Radiation Processing: Dosimetry and Applications Subcommittee. She is also a member in the American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and Parenteral Drug Association (PDA). Fatima has publications in various peer reviewed journals including the Radiation Physics and Chemistry, PDA Journal of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Polymer, and Dyes and Pigments. Fatima holds a Masters degree in Organic and Polymer Chemistry and Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology both from Carleton University.

Chris Howard

PhD, Radiation Physicist, Gamma Technologies, Nordion
Chris has over 15 years of experience studying and applying radiation physics in academic and industrial applications.

Chris supports gamma technologies at Nordion and Sotera Health’s sister companies. He specializes in modeling dosimetry and dose to product in self-contained and industrial scale gamma irradiators. Chris holds an MSc degree from Queen’s University and a PhD from the University of Alberta.

Tom Wasiak

P.Eng, MSc. Biomedical Engineering, Technical Authority for Sealed Sources
Tom is Nordion’s technical expert for sealed sources. This includes their design, testing, certification, fabrication, use, recycling and disposal. Tom is a member of Professional Engineers of Ontario and has more than 25 years of experience in the field of radioactive sources, biomedical engineering, medical devices and self-contained irradiators. Tom is a an active member and co-convener of the “Sealed Sources” working group (WG11) on the International Standards Organization’s Technical Committee on “Nuclear energy, nuclear technology and radiological protection” (TC 085). Tom holds a Masters Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Warsaw University of Technology in Poland.

Richard Wassenaar

H.BSc, PhD Physics, Director, Regulatory Affairs & EHS, Nordion
Richard is a highly organized, results-driven individual who is accountable for all Regulatory Affairs and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) activities at Nordion, as well as the development, implementation and compliance of Nordion’s safety programs and regulatory license conditions.

Richard graduated with a H.BSc in Physics from Lakehead University and a PhD in Physics with a specialty in medical physics imaging from Carleton University. Richard is certified as a member of the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine and is a Certified Health Physicist.

Richard is a highly organized, results-driven individual who is accountable for all Regulatory Affairs and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) activities at Nordion, as well as the development, implementation and compliance of Nordion’s safety programs and regulatory license conditions.

Larry Winn

Larry is the Director of Engineering at Nordion, in Ottawa, Canada. He has more than 20 years of experience in the area of Production Irradiator Design, Development and Installation. He has been involved with more than 35 new irradiator projects, as well as many irradiator upgrade projects. Larry has a background in industrial controls and automation including database systems integration into business systems.

Larry is a member of ANSI N43.10 committee for ‘Safe Design and Use of Panoramic, Wet Source Storage Gamma Irradiators’ and the Chairman of GIPA. He is also an experienced speaker at conferences throughout the irradiation industry.

Larry has a Bachelor’s of Science Engineering degree from Queens’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
