This talk explores what it means to be a physicist in the private sector through experience at Nordion, where applied physics supports nuclear technology, engineering, and global health. Industrial physics focuses less on publications and more on delivering reliable, measurable outcomes within constraints of safety, regulation, customer satisfaction, schedule, and cost. Using examples from radiation physics, dosimetry, and mathematical modelling, the presentation shows how fundamental principles are translated into practical, high‑impact solutions. The talk also discusses collaboration across disciplines and offers perspective on career paths for physicists considering non‑academic roles.
