Evacuation of Nordion Roy Errington Building
On November 4, 2019, Nordion’s Administrative Building experienced a power outage. As a precaution, employees were evacuated from the building while an electrical issue was addressed. The issue was resolved and power has been restored.
Exterior Construction Activities
On September 30, 2019, exterior construction work began for the addition of a new construction entrance to the Nordion facility in the South-East section of the building. This work is in support of renovation activities within the licensed facility.
Emergency Response Training Exercise
On June 21, 2019, Nordion evacuated their March Road facility in Kanata as part of an Emergency Response exercise with the City of Ottawa Emergency Response teams. The ability to safely evacuate the occupants of any building is very important to mitigate the impact of an emergency. Nordion holds exercises involving practice evacuation on a regular basis as part of its Emergency Management Program to ensure appropriate preparedness for the unlikely event of an emergency at the Nordion site. This exercise was successfully completed at approximately 11 am and we thank those who participated.
On-site Familiarization Visits for Ottawa Fire Services Personnel
Members of the Ottawa Fire Services will be visiting Nordion for planned meetings. This is part of their normal and routine community service. These visits allow the Ottawa emergency response teams to better respond if the need to do so ever presents itself and is not in response to any specific incident or threat to Nordion.
Ottawa Fire Services will be on site Thursday, June 12, there will likely be emergency vehicles on site during this visit.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2019, Nordion evacuated an administrative building as a result of a false fire alarm.
On-site Familiarization Visits for Local Emergency Response Personnel
Members of the local emergency response teams (such as paramedics) will be visiting Nordion to become familiar with our site. This is part of their normal and routine community service. The visit is also associated with the CNSC regulatory requirements. These visits allow the Ottawa emergency response teams to better respond if the need to do so ever presents itself and is not in response to any specific incident or threat to Nordion.
Groups of emergency response teams will be on site Monday April 1st, there will likely be emergency vehicles on site during this visit.
On-site Familiarization Visits for Local Law Enforcement
Members of the Ottawa and RCMP police services will be visiting Nordion to become familiar with our site. This is part of their normal and routine community service. The visit is also associated with the CNSC regulatory requirements. These visits allow the Ottawa police to better respond if the need to do so ever presents itself and is not in response to any specific incident or threat to Nordion.
Groups of police will be on site Monday, March 25th, Tuesday, March 26th and Monday April 1st. There will likely be emergency vehicles on site during these visits.
