The ability to safely evacuate the occupants of any building is very important to mitigate the impact of an emergency. Nordion holds exercises involving practice evacuation on a regular basis as part of its Emergency Management Program to ensure appropriate preparedness for the unlikely event of an emergency at the Nordion site. This exercise was successfully completed at approximately 11 am and we thank those who participated.

Members of Ottawa Police will be visiting Nordion for planned meetings on June 22nd and there will likely be emergency vehicles on site during this visit. This is part of their normal and routine community service. These visits allow the Ottawa emergency response teams to better respond if the need to do so ever presents itself and is not in response to any specific incident or threat to Nordion.
On the evening of May 26, 2022, Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) arrived at Nordion after receiving a call from Nordion Security. Regular on-site cleaning resulted in a short circuit in a piece of fire safety system equipment that then triggered a fault in the fire system. This event did not trigger the fire alarm, there was no evacuation, and the emergency response plan was not initiated. OFS checked the premises, confirmed the safety of the facility, and left shortly after.
